Whether you’re new to snowy mountains, or just want a refresher, join the Anchorage Avalanche Center for a four hour workshop at the Eagle River Nature Center. No matter your recreational pursuit of choice (ski, ride, hike, bike, climb, snowshoe, dogsled, etc.) you'll learn, or have the opportunity to brush up on, the skills and knowledge you need to keep yourself safe and comfortable in this environment. The workshop will cover avalanche basics including recognition, management, and rescue. It will also address more general issues like proper preparation, gear, and attire for winter backcountry adventures. The learning will be multi-faceted, engaging, and is taught by a Masters-level professional outdoor educator with countless days experience in the mountains of Southcentral Alaska.
The nominal fee for this workshop directly supports the grassroots Anchorage Avalanche Center, and its public safety information and education programs for Chugach State Park. This workshop is made possible thanks to generous support from the Eagle River Nature Center.

The Anchorage area is surrounded by the big mountains of the Chugach: a world-class recreational resource with year-round opportunities for fun and adventure. Playing in these mountains can greatly enhance your life, and it's important to have fun outdoors in Alaska even in the winter! However, avalanche danger exists in these mountains from at least October through May.
