Avalanche Awareness Field Session at Showdown Montana

In partnership with the Friends of the Little Belts and Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center

This avalanche awareness course will be held in conjunction with an online lecture, Friday February 12th, 6-7:30pm via ZOOM Online.

Topics include: avalanche terrain recognition, the effect weather has on avalanche hazard, the development of the mountain snowpack, decision making skills, and basic search and rescue procedures.

Join us for a field session from 10am-2pm and learn about these topics in the field. A beacon, shovel, probe and skis are required to join and registration is required for the field session. You must attend the online portion to come to the field day.

1) Proper equipment for avalanche preparedness includes: Beacon, Probe and shovel. If you have them please email us so we can get a count. If you don't have them, you will be able to borrow during the course.

2) Both motorized and non-motorized users are encouraged to take this course.
