Be inspired by Autumn and paint porcelain pumpkins in the style of Baroque artist, Juan Arellano, from the Hill-Stead collection!

About this Event

Bring your friends and join us to craft your own Baroque-inspired porcelain pumpkins!

Guests will visit Hill-Stead’s magnificent Drawing Room where they can view two Hill-Stead collection still-life paintings by artist Juan de Arellano (1614-1676) before gathering in the Makeshift for an Autumn-inspired paint experience.

Following a brief tour and viewing of the floral paintings, recreate their essence with instructor Rachel Cutler.

Light refreshments will be provided, along with two pumpkins per participant and painting supplies.

Learn more about Rachel:

Rachel Cutler graduated from University of Hartford with a BFA focused in Illustration. She quickly put her talents to work as a painting instructor, working throughout New England with classes in Connecticut, Long Island and Massachusetts. Over the years she has guided people from all walks of life through their first painting. She has led events ranging from kid’s birthday parties to corporate workshops. Rachel specializes in beautiful landscapes and scenes from nature, and draws inspiration from the incredible impressionist paintings at Hill- Stead. She has extensive experience in watercolor, acrylics, gouache and oil paints. At Hill- Stead you will find her in Education, getting her hands dirty while sketching out plein air drawings in oil pastel with visiting students, or guiding a tour through the museum. In this event she will be leading you through a pumpkin painting inspired by the Spanish Floral artist Juan de Arellano.
