Autumn at Long Pond
Overview
Difficulty: Moderate, with some rocky inclines with uneven surfaces. Moderate pace.
Appropriate for: All. Children ages 10+ welcome if accompanied by an adult.
Leader: Boot Boutwell
About Boot: Roland “Boot” Boutwell, a freelance itinerant naturalist, has been leading nature walks for the Friends of the Fells for nearly 25 years. He has also led walks and/or taught botany programs for a number of other organizations including The Trustees of Reservations, Arlington Community Education, The Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, Winchester public schools, Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, The New England Wild Flower Society and the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
About the walk: We will take a walk in the Long Pond area searching for plants that are still in flower as well as plants that are in fruit. We’ll also look for winter weeds, those hardy herbaceous (non-woody) plants whose skeletons decorate the autumn and winter landscape. As usual, there will be a good dose of natural history about the plants we see, as well as a poem, or two or three! Meet at the Long Pond parking lot on South Border Rd. (opposite #532) in Winchester. Steady rain cancels.
**Please do not register unless you can absolutely attend this walk. We often have waitlists and would like as many folks as possible to be able to attend.**
Contact: Contact friends@fells.org with any questions and/or concerns.
Dogs: This program is not suitable for our furry friends (it's a moderate hike with uneven terrain). Please take a look at our calendar for other walks that are good for dogs to join!
Please note: Emails from Eventbrite may end up in your spam folder. Please check your spam folder if you have registered for the waitlist to ensure that you are receiving the email notifications. We also suggest removing Eventbrite from your spam sender list.
