Organizer of AUTOPILOT - AUTOmated driving Progressed by Internet Of Things

Automated vehicles are one of the hottest topics in ITS today, showcasing a growing list of potential benefits ranging from greater security through environmental impact to increased comfort and flexibility to users.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is an area of innovation connecting billions of devices, feeding data into millions of new applications. Experts estimate that this giant network of “things” will consist of as much as 50 billion objects by 2020 enabling the advancement of a wide range of applications across various areas impacting our everyday life.

AUTOPILOT strives to connect the two areas by using these IoT technologies in the automotive world, to advance the evolution of connected vehicles into highly and fully automated vehicles.

The AUTOPILOT consortium represents all relevant areas of the IoT ecosystem. The project proposes to develop an IoT open vehicle platform and IoT architecture based on existing and upcoming standards as well as open source and vendor solutions.

These solutions will be tested at six pilot sites located in Finland, France, Korea, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands.
