The Functions of Behavior at School--Why Is My Student Doing That?
An Autism Workshop for Para-Educators, Childcare Providers & Direct Service Providers
Blaire Luebkeman, MSEd, BCBA, Behavior Analyst
Stephanie Mariano Morin, MSEd, BCBA, Behavior Analyst
Do you ever wonder WHY your students behave the way they do? Board Certified Behavior Analysts from The Birchtree Center will offer an overview of the different functions that behavior can serve. You'll get some tips for identifying the possible roots of your students' behavior. You'll also learn about some effective strategies for addressing behaviors serving specific functions. You'll see how understanding the functions of behavior can allow a student's team to develop more effective strategies to reduce those behaviors that interfere with learning. This function-based approach can be effective for many students--including those with autism.
This 1.5-hour workshop will include a presentation followed by questions and discussion. The workshop is open to all–including educators, parents, and guardians–but the workshop is designed to be especially useful to para-educators and others who work one-on-one or in small groups with individuals with autism in school and childcare settings. Certificates of attendance are provided.
Admission is complimentary and reservations are suggested.
