Former JCC Indianapolis member, Ben Winters, makes his return to lead a community discussion of his new nationally-acclaimed novel Underground Airlines.
Set in current day Indianapolis, Underground Airlines is a snapshot of life as we know it--smartphones, social networking, Happy Meals--except for one detail: the Civil War never happened. In fact, slavery is still legal in four states labelled "The Hard Four." From that premise, Winters spins a detective story that forces readers to explore their beliefs about the United States as it is and as it could have been.
This program is presented by The Unity Project, whose mission is to build respect and understanding between various communities, especially the black community and the Jewish community, through the arts and dialogue.
