Event description

Description

What makes an area truly livable? In his new book, journalist and urban critic Philip Langdon shows how people are creating, improving, and caring for walkable communities such as New Haven's East Rock neighborhood-places where residents can walk or bike in just a few minutes to cafes, grocery stores, laundries, schools, parks, and other useful destinations. Langdon, who has lived in New Haven for 34 years, spent time in six communities across the US that differ in size, history, wealth, diversity, and education, yet share these crucial traits: compactness; human scale; a mix of uses and activities; and people who devote energy to making their neighborhood better.
