Event description

Description

Central Texas has one of the nation’s fastest-growing populations of older adults, and many of these newcomers are looking for work. To address this need, Austin and Cedar Park area employers have signed up to participate in the first Cedar Park job fair specifically focused on older job seekers.

By creating these job fair events, AustinUP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is working to enlighten business leaders and human resource directors about the strengths of older adults in the workplace, as well as the value of a multigenerational workforce. Information about our November 7 event:

Past job fair attendees have asked for specific techniques to help them make it through the interview process. We'll feature two separate takes on interview strategy during our November 7 event. Come for one, stay for both!

10:15 a.m.: "SWOT At Your Next Interview" presented by entrepreneur/public speaker Mike Trujillo. Many of us job seekers bring meaningful experience into a role yet have a hard time selling ourselves to potential employers. We will explore a few ideas to disrupt the typical interview process in your favor. You will walk away with useful information including templates, checklists and perhaps a new perspective on your search.

11:15 a.m.: "The Interview Puzzle - How to Take Control of Your Interview" will be led by employment consultant Chip Sampson. For many, the interview is a challenging experience. Did you do well? Do they like you? Did you answer all of their questions? Were you the strongest candidate? If you have ever walked away from an interview feeling like you "nailed it" but still didn't get the job, it's confusing. The Interview Puzzle will help you to better understand the dynamics of an interview. You will learn how to prepare and look for opportunities to take control of the interview so that you have the desired outcome, a job offer.
