About the Concert:

Featuring & curated by local guitarist, singer, and songwriter Javier Jara, originally of Ecuador, this concert will combine string orchestra with Latin music. Featuring music written by Javier for his Our Rhythms Our Voices project and inspired by interviews with local immigrants, we'll explore and celebrate human beings in motion; how we move, why we move, where we've come from, and what brings us together.

Program to Include:

- Osvaldo Golijov - Tenebrae

- Jessica Meyer - Go Big or Go Home

- Gabriela Lena Frank - Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, "Coqueteos"

- Antonin Dvorak - Serenade for Strings, Scherzo: Vivace

- works by Javier Jara

About the Curator:

Hailing from the Ecuadorian highlands, Javier Jara has been producing and performing Latin music of all genres for all kinds of audiences, both big and small, in the United States for over 15 years. With a voice that is both soulful and melodic, Javier specializes in Latin folk and roots music ranging from Trova to Son Cubano to Bossa Nova and Tango. From 2016 through 2019, Javier produced more than twelve Latin ensemble concerts as an artist-in-residence at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin. He is now part of their Latin American Artist Access Program. Javier has two studio albums (De Una with Los Bohemios Perdidos and Canciones de Cuarentena as a Soloist). He will soon record his third studio album from the Our Rhythms, Our Voices project. He was one of six winners in the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk Competition in 2022. About Austin Unconducted:

Austin Unconducted is a democratic orchestra formed in 2021 by a group of young professional musicians with a desire to present classical music in a way that is relatable, fresh, and fun. Rather than working with a conductor, our 18 string musicians collaborate and work with local artists to design and perform concerts that truly reflect the voice and energy of the city of Austin. Unconfined by tradition, unafraid to feature unheard voices, & unapologetically Austin, we are keeping music current.

Austin Unconducted is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that builds community by creating inclusive, immersive, and relevant concert experiences that engage diverse audiences. As a cooperative orchestra, we re-examine the long arc of musical tradition through a contemporary lens with performances that promote equity and generate new excitement for art music in our ever changing city.
