Luncheon begins at 12 pm beginning with a short annual business meeting: 2014 officer elections, adoption of annual budget, etc. About our Speaker: Anyone who has worked in Austin’s technology industry anytime in the last 30 years should probably drop Pike Powers a thank you note. He’s identified in countless news accounts as a civic leader and super-lawyer-turned-entrepreneur, but most people who work in technology-related enterprises know him as the godfather of the Texas technology economy. Known to thousands simply as “Pike,” his legacy began the 1970s, and has helped lead the successful recruitment of 3M in 1984, Sematech in 1987, Applied Materials in 1991 and Samsung’s second Austin’s chip factory in 2005.In addition to those landmark efforts, Mr. Powers has worked on countless committees and tasks forces, served as the chair of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, was named to Governor Perry’s Science and Bio-technology Council and was named Austinite of the Year. For the last decade, Pike Powers has worked tirelessly to establish a world-class commercialization facility benefiting the UT community .
