Austin Art in Public Places TEMPO 2021 Artist Information Meeting
Event Information
About this Event
The City of Austin Economic Development Department program seeks artists and artist teams to apply for the Austin Art in Public Places TEMPO 2021 temporary public art program.
The intent of the TEMPO program (including the TEMPO 2D program) is to promote tourism, cultivate curiosity, spark imagination, engage the community in a meaningful dialogue about public art, foster work by local artists and cultivate exploration of the City of Austin. Artists are encouraged to create artworks that reflect the site where they will exhibit their work, and design artwork that can be easily installed and de-installed.
Artworks commissioned through TEMPO 2021, part of the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places (AIPP) program of the Cultural Arts Division, Economic Development Department will be exhibited at select Austin Public Library branches for approximately 12 months.
Artists at least 18 years of age who live in Travis County, and the six contiguous counties (Williamson, Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet and Blanco counties) are eligible to apply.
The artist information meeting will be held on Zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions. Registered attendees will receive the Zoom link prior to the meeting.
Visit the application website for more information and to apply. Application deadline is January 26, 2021, 5:00 p.m. CST

The City of Austin Economic Development Department provides leadership and management for the City’s cultural arts programs and for the development of arts and cultural industries through its Cultural Arts Division. The Art in Public Places program acquires and maintains works of art for City facilities through commissions, donations, and loans for the cultural enrichment of Austin’s community.
We continue to work on public art projects for the City of Austin, supporting economic opportunities for artists during COVID-19. The safety of artists, staff and Austin residents remains our utmost priority. Adjustments to schedules and processes may be made depending on the state of the current health crisis.
