Description

Experience artist Craig Colorusso's 'Moon Pod' sound sculpture with this free yoga session set outside on the Ent Center for the Arts Public Sculpture Green. Certified instructor Benny James will lead this one hour special event, appropriate for all yoga backgrounds. Bring your own mat and/or towel (we will be on grass) along with a water bottle - limited mats will be available to borrow. Watch the full moon rise as the sounds of the 'Moon Pod' fill the air. Free, but pre-registration requested. // Image credit: Tom Kimmell Photography

About the Yoga Instructor // Benny James is a wellness leader who utilizes yoga, dance, nutrition, massage, energy work, somatic movement, essential oils, and more to help himself and others uncover a health life that truly works for them. He is a frequent guest teacher for GOCA's Wellness Wednesdays program at UCCS.

About the Artist // Craig Colorusso is a Arkansas-based artist whose works intersect sound, light, and sculpture. Winner of the 2014 ArtFields® prize, Colorusso has presented his inventive, participatory works across a range of sites and festivals over the past decade, after decades as a professional performing musician. Colorusso is creating a new work as part of his MOON PHASES series - Moon Pod - for a one-year period of installation (January - December, 2018). The sculpture is a sound art work that will play music based on the fullness of the moon, beginning in silence with the New Moon and slowly filling with sonic density, adding notes until at its fullest during the Full Moon. The artist's Sun Boxes will also be installed in varying configurations across the landscape surrounding the Ent Center for the Arts over the one year period, inviting cross-disciplinary responses from a range of UCCS and community artists, dancers, performers, musicians, and yoginis.

About GOCA // GOCA is a regional hub of contemporary art, culture, and conversation. By featuring world-class artists, hosting artist and expert talks, and offering meaningful events, GOCA engages UCCS students, faculty, staff and Pikes Peak region community members in contemporary culture and life. GOCA is a contemporary arts organization with two galleries, one founded on the UCCS campus in 1981 (and newly moved to the Ent Center for the Arts in January, 2018), plus a satellite downtown Colorado Springs location that opened in 2010 in the Plaza of the Rockies building.
