Hollywood SMPTE -- presented by AES and SBE

Putting Audio Into Packets

How Audio-Over-IP (AoIP) is a Versatile Solution for Today’s Audio Production

Co-produced by Lon Neumann & Jim DeFilippis

There are many benefits to configuring the audio infrastructure of professional production facilities using AoIP via Ethernet IP networks—not the least of which are vastly simplified cabling and utilizing Common-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) managed IP network switches.

In the interest of enabling universally interoperable IP systems, both AES and SMPTE have developed Audio-Over-IP standards: AES 67 and SMPTE ST 2110.

The meeting this month will feature a panel of experts in AoIP, responsible for having developed both the AES 67 and SMPTE ST 2110 standards, an expert in packetized audio for intercom and communications, as well as a high-end user of Audio-Over-IP technology.

Panelists:

Kevin Gross -- Chair of the AES committee responsible for developing AES 67. He will discuss the technology that underpins the standard.

Thomas Edwards --Chair of the SMPTE committee that developed the suite of IP networking standards, ST 2110. He’ll discuss the integration of AES 67 within SMPTE ST 2110 as well as future security extensions.

Martin Dyster – VP Telos Alliance will discuss the development of their fully IP-networked production intercom system.

Howie Chung -- Manager of Network Engineering at Pac-12 Networks, will hold forth on the deployment of AoIP in both Local-Area-Networking and Wide-Area-Networking for remote “At-Home” production of athletic events from over 100 venues at the Pac-12 Conference of 12 universities.

Lon Neumann— Noted industry consultant will moderate a panel discussion amongst the experts as well as open up the panel for Q&A with the audience.
