Description

American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) will host a Northeast Regional Symposium on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Doral Arrowwood Resort in Rye Brook, New York. With the theme of global health, this event will showcase student and clinical faculty work on topics related to international medicine.

Dr. Majid Sadigh, Trefz Family Endowed Chair in Global Health at the Western Connecticut Health Network and director of Global Health at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, will deliver this year's keynote address. The program will include a physician-led panel on challenges in global health and student presentations addressing issues related to international medicine. AUC clinical students in the tristate area and beyond are encouraged to submit proposals for consideration. Submission guidelines and criteria are noted below.

The program will begin at 9:00 a.m. with presentations and panel discussion ending by 5:00 p.m.

Attendees are invited to a pre-session breakfast from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and a hosted reception and dinner from 5:00-7:30 p.m.

Call for Presentations

AUC students are invited to submit a presentation for consideration and possible inclusion in the program. Submission can be for an individual or group presentation.

A selection committee will choose up to six (6) presentations to be held at 30-minute increments throughout the symposium.

Submission Guidelines and Requirements

1. Submission should be on a topic relevant to Global Health or International Medicine.
2. Submission should be in PowerPoint (or equivalent) format.
3. Submissions may be by individuals or groups (preferred) of students.
4. The presentation should be no more than 20 minutes in length.
5. Submissions will be judged based on quality and relevance to conference theme.

Submissions must be sent to Dr. Robert Hecht, Associate Clinical Dean for the US, at rhecht@aucmed.edu by 5:00 PM EST on Friday, March 23, 2018.

Call for Global Health Elective Posters

Students who have completed a Global Health Elective through the Western Connecticut Health Network's Global Health Program are invited to participate in a poster and photograph exhibition. Posters can include photographs and personal reflections related to an experience while rotating abroad.

Submissions must be sent to Dr. Robert Hecht, Associate Clinical Dean for the US, at rhecht@aucmed.edu by 5:00 PM EST on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

Transportation

AUC will be organizing transportation for clinical students based out of Danbury Hospital, Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, and Nassau University Medical Center.

CME Credit

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through joint providership of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

College Cognate Credit(s)

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.75 Category 1 College Cognate Credits. The College has a reciprocity agreement with the AMA that allows AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ to be equivalent to College Cognate Credits.
