Organizer The Greater Naples Chapter of Americans United.

Organizer of AU-TURNER FAMILY ANNUAL CIVIC AWARD

Americans United for Separation of Church and State is a nonpartisan educational organization dedicated to preserving the constitutional principle of church-state separation as the only way to ensure religious freedom for all Americans.

Thomas Jefferson, in 1802, defined that uniquely American tradition:
" ...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State..."

In the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson had written about the laws of "Nature' God" who gave man the freedom to choose his religious beliefs, who created the world and is the final judge of man, and who does not intervene in the affairs of man. This belief is clearly seen in Jefferson's Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. In those documents, Thomas Jefferson clearly defined the philosophy of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State.

With 140 members in Naples, AU is governed by a distinguished board of directors. The primary activities are:  strong relations with the Collier County School Board on matters of religious freedom and the separation of Church & State;  Providing educational services such as seminars and e-mail briefings; work closely with other organizations on contentious matters;  Monitoring of legislative and regulatory issues impinging on constitutional matters.
