Part I - Attracting & Retaining Top Talent
With the job market as strong as it has been at any time in the last seven years, gone are the days when employers had the upper hand in the hiring process. Job seekers now have the advantage. As a result of this shift in power, employers need to put a greater emphasis on attraction and retention efforts in order to hire and keep top employees.
Studies show that 60% of the non-exempt workforce turnover within the first six months of their job and make their decision to leave within the first 30 days. We will discuss the need and methods to increase employee engagement and retention. In an era of reaching for new levels of external customer service we must first focus on internal customer service. Fully engaged employees choose to excel at customer service while the “sleepwalkers” choose to straddle the line of acceptability.
We are also looking at the greatest transformation in the U.S. workforce in our life time. Up to 19 million boomers will be exiting the workforce in the next 5 years being replaced by millennials and the up and coming “nexter” generation. The organizations that thrive through this transition are putting the programs in place now to prepare. Social media will continue to dominate the new workforce. The “silver bullet” for companies to excel at retention for the next several years is holding supervisors and managers accountable for retention. The greatest factor impacting employees’ decision to leave or stay with their current employer is their relationship with their boss.
We will also discuss why up to 80% of turnover can be attributed to poor hiring costing employers up to 150% of the first year’s salary to reverse the damage. We will guide hiring managers through the mine fields created by up the 46% of falsified resumes and how to detect their early warning signs as well as avoiding falling in the trap of the “halo” and “devil” effect of interviewing.
