Cactus Section IFT Suppliers' Night 

The Cactus Section IFT invites you to participate in our Suppliers' Night Expo—a fun and unique industry show where professionals attend to discover the latest ingredients and new concepts in the food industry. Additionally, this year we have added an education session on the New Proposed Nutrition Facts Label that is coming (details below).   We had a successful event last year and look forward to another one this year!

Education Session - New Proposed Nutrition Facts Label

The Food and Drug Administration’s Nutrition Facts Panel will undergo the first major revision in 20 years.  These modifications reflect new nutritional science coupled with America’s change in eating habits.  The heavy burden of label and formulation compliance falls on the food industry with an estimated $2.3 billion at stake.*  As food industry professionals, we must act, understand and embrace the changes.  This session focuses on how these changes may affect product formulation and nutritional claims.  The presentation will highlight major changes to label redesign and serving sizes.  Mock samples of packages with current and new nutrition fact panel will allow attendees to grasp the magnitude of the changes, including dual panel and linear formats.  We will look behind the label and explore the definition of added sugars, fiber and nutritional claims.  The session will conclude with a look at the resources and planning needed to implement the changes.

Speaker Bio

Michelle Wright is an independent food labeling and regulatory consultant with 25 years of experience.  She has worked extensively with USDA and FDA product labeling, nutrition issues and claims over a wide variety of products.  Michelle works extensively with both fortune 100 and small startup companies.
