F33W Beginner DNA Workshop: From Mouse Click to DNA Connection (4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday with break for dinner)
Must be registered for the conference to attend. The 2-hour workshop will carry an extra fee of $25 and is limited to 30 attendees. Computer required. The lectures (F31 & F32) carry no extra fee and attendance is unlimited.

S33W Intermediate DNA Workshop: Try Your Hand at Genetic Genealogy (1:15-3:45 p.m. Saturday with a break from 2:15 to 2:45)
Must be registered for the conference to attend. This 2-hour workshop will carry an extra fee of $25 & is limited to 30 attendees. Computer not required. The lectures (S31 & S32) carry no extra fee and attendance is unlimited.

Must be registered for the conference to attend. The 2-hour workshop with Mark Lowe: Beginning Land Platting, Part 1 & Part 2 will carry an extra fee of $25, plus $7 materials fee and is limited to 25 attendees. Attendees should bring a pencil and calculator. There will be a thirty minute break.

The Fairfax Genealogical Society invites you to ‘mark your calendar’ for its annual spring conference, Find Your Missing Branches”. This major event will be 5 & 6 April 2019 at the Sheraton Reston Hotel, 11810 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston, VA 20191.

OFriday, 05 April 2019 we are pleased to offer a keynote speaker, Diahan Southard, DNA Expert, and six tracks of four lectures each from 10:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Registration begins at 9:00 A.M.

10:30 A.M. Opening Session   

11:00 A.M. Keynote Speaker:  Diahan Southard, DNA Expert.  How DNA Made a Family of Strangers.

  • Track 1 - Daniel Boone, Kentucky, Southern Migration & Secret  Societies -- Mark Lowe, CG, FUGA
  • Track 2 - African American Research 'Challenges' -- Dr. Shelley Murphy
  • Track 3 - Beginning DNA -- Diahan Southard
    • *F33W:  Beginner DNA Workshop:From Mouse Click to DNA Connection +$25 limited to 25 people (must be registered for conference to attend) Time:  4:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with break for dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Track 4 - Hidden Stories: Finding & Telling Them -- Pam Vestal
  • Track 5 - Finding Ancestors in Libraries & Archives -- The      Librarians,  Laura Wickstead, Chris Barbusechak & Elaine McRae 
  • Track 6 - Digging Deeper: Federal Records -- Rick Sayre, CG, CGL, FUGA

On Saturday, 6 April 2019 we are pleased to offer six tracks, four with four lectures and two with two-hour workshops from 9:00 A.M. to 3:45 P.M., as well as luncheon speaker:  Mark Lowe, CG, FUGA: People, Places & River Rocks

  • Track 1 - African American Research, Writing & Publishing -- Char Bah
  • Track 2 - Methodology -- Elissa Scalise Powell, CG, CGL
  • Track 3 - Intermediate DNA -- Diahan Southard
    • *S33W:  Intermediate DNA Workshop (following Track 3 lectures): +$25 limited to 25 people (must be registered for conference to attend). Time:  1:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. with a break from 2:15 p.m to 2:45 p.m.
  • Track 4 - Colonial Land, Law and Religion -- Chuck Mason, CG
  • Track 5 - Virginia Research -- Barbara Vines Little, CG, FNGS,FVGS
  • *Track 6 - Beginning Land Platting, Metes & Bounds WORKSHOP -- Mark Lowe, CG, FUGA: +$32 (fee includes a protractor and a ruler) Attendees should bring a pencil and calculator, limited to 25 people (must be registered for conference to attend) Time:  9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m with a break from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  

Vendors offering books, software, forms, and other items of interest will be available on Friday and Saturday.

Fairfax Genealogical Society

The Fairfax Genealogical Society was established in 1974 as a non-profit organization to promote fellowship and cooperation among persons who are conducting genealogical research, to further the use of sound  genealogical methods, standards of accuracy, and scholarly research, and to aid those doing research in our area.   We currently have over 500 members, including not only many who live in or near Fairfax County, but also many who are searching for information in our area.  We are pleased to also have the membership of several libraries and other societies nationwide.
