Event description
Let's talk about the "Birds (chickens) and the bees!" Join us for a free meetup to talk about backyard chicken and beekeeping!

About this Event

Heath Ward, co-founder of CityChick, wants you to join other Atlanta area "chicken tenders" for a fun meet and greet. We'll meet the lovely hens of the Wylde Center Oakhurst Garden and check out their coop.

After we talk chicken, Peter Helfrich from Beecatur, GA will share his knowledge of raising bees and collecting fresh honey. He will also talk about alternatives to mosquito sprays - something that every backyard chicken owner should consider.

"Bee" part of the first 25 people to sign up and you'll receive a *FREE* 10 oz bag of Grubblies ($10 value) when you attend the meetup.

We will also do a giveaway of one FREE bag of hemp chicken bedding ($28 value) from Old Dominion Hemp at the event. You must be present to win and only one entry per person please!

A great big "thank you" to Grubbly Farms, Old Dominion Hemp, and the Wylde Center for your support to the Atlanta chicken community!

Grubbly Farms are the great people behind the popular chicken treat "Grubblies". Grubblies are the black soldier fly larvae protein treat for your chickens. Each grub can consume a grape-sized portion of feed. And because Grubbly Farms feeds their grubs food scraps, they're diverting waste from landfills, reducing methane gas, and creating a nutritious fertilizer. With every pound of Grubblies purchases, 10 pounds of food waste has been diverted from landfills, offsetting 7 pounds of carbon dioxide. A healthy treat for your chicken and a win for the environment! Grubbly Farms is based here in Atlanta.

Old Dominion Hemp specializes in hemp bedding for equine (horse) and small animals. Old Dominion Hemp was started with the goal to show the public, specifically farmers, that industrial hemp has many agricultural uses. Old Dominion Hemp was founded in Charlottesville, Virginia, where we’re located less than 5 miles from the home of Thomas Jefferson – who we like to call the Founding Father of Hemp.

The Wylde Center was founded in 1997 out of a need to provide opportunities to experience nature in an urban environment. As a result of the community’s involvement and commitment, the organization has evolved into a large and active nonprofit organization operating five greenspaces (Oakhurst Garden, Sugar Creek Garden, Hawk Hollow, Edgewood Community Learning Garden, and the Mulberry Fields Garden) in four different Decatur and Atlanta neighborhoods, open year round for the community, for events and for Wylde Center’s educational programs.

Additionally, Wylde Center provides one of the largest youth environmental and science education programs in metro-Atlanta, including the Decatur Farm to School program, Atlanta Farm to School, Healthy Living by Healthy Growing at the Decatur Housing Authority, and science program and field trips linked to Common Core standards.
