Description
Have an app idea or need an app built for your business?
Parks and Recreation Hack! Join us for a Mobile App Hackathon focused on finding innovative solutions to help people and organizations promote an active lifestyle. Use your passion for coding to develop an App to make it easier to enjoy the great outdoors or other recreational activities. Hackathons are coding competitions, where individuals and teams build mobile apps from scratch over a 24 hour period. The apps are then pitched to judges and prizes award for the best apps. Hackathons are a great opportunity to learn new technologies, network with fellow developers, enjoy some food, most importantly have some fun!
The Hackathon will be held in Seattle Washington at Surf Incubator, starting Friday March 18 at 6pm and ending Saturday March 19 approximately 8:30pm. See the full schedule below.
You Bring...
Your laptop, skills & ideas. Come with a collaborative, team focused mindset and/or team up in advance on Twitter/Facebook/Google+ via the #atthack hashtag. Whether you are a backend person, designer, entrepreneur, student, or just interested in tech; you are invited to attend this event. Every group needs a good balance of talent and your development skills are needed!
We Supply...
Quick presentations and code samples that help to bootstrap your hacking, food to keep you going, and caffeine to keep you awake. We will have technical senseis to assist you in building faster, smarter, and with new tools. We will also have loaner hardware on-site (limited supply) for you to use in your solutions.

Event Schedule
The following is a list of the weekend's agenda:
Day 1

6PM - Kickoff event with dinner, networking and developer dating

7PM - Speakers present (see below for list)

8PM - Pitch idea and form teams

12AM - The venue will close for the evening. You may continue hacking overnight offsite or get some sleep.
Day 2
-
10:00AM - The fun continues with coffee served in the morning! Work with the teams from Day 1 to complete the app spec'd. Mentors will be available throughout the entire day to help you code your solution. App submissions will be accepted throughout the day with a deadline of 4PM.

5PM - Dinner is served

6PM - Pencils down. Pitches start promptly at 6PM and are limited to three (3) minutes per team. PowerPoint presentations are NOT recommended!
Prizes
- Best Hackathon Overall App or IoT Solution: $1000 in Amazon gift cards for the team
- Best Parks and Recreation themed App or IoT Solution: $500 in Amazon gift cards for the team
- Community Choice Award: $250 in Amazon gift cards for the team

Parking Information (including Free Parking)
Parking rates for 4th and Maddison Garage (map):
- Friday after 5pm- 1am: $7 (Vehicles that exit after 1am on Saturday =$14)
- Saturday all day $7
In addition, we have partnered with the 4th and Maddison Garage to be able to offer the first 50 attendees, who present their 4th and Maddison parking ticket at the registration table each day, free parking validation!
Speakers


Jesús Aguirre is Superintendent of Seattle Parks and Recreation. He was confirmed by the Seattle City Council on May 11, 2015.
Aguirre began his career as a middle school science teacher in Los Angeles in the early 1990s. Most recently, he served as the State Superintendent of Education for the District of Columbia, overseeing an agency responsible for childcare licensing and subsidy programs for over 500 childcare providers, statewide K-12 education policy-making, support and accountability for over 200 public schools, and post-secondary and adult education.
Prior to his role as State Superintendent of Education, Aguirre served as the director of the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation.
Aguirre is a proud father of three children attending public schools. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from the WP Carey School of Business at the Arizona State University.
Ayele Dagne,Seattle Parks and Recreation IT Director, is very experienced in local government technology, and is aware of many of the information opportunities and technology challenges related to Parks systems and transportation systems. Ayele encourages his team members to “Find a way to make it happen”. His hope is that he and his team can assist you this weekend to do the same.
