Description

Learn from award-winning artists and draw your very own historic comic book!

For over a century, artists and writers have been drawing inspiration from history and the world around them to create comic strips and books. From the Iranian Revolution in Persepolis to an alternative history of Africa in Black Panther, these comics expose us to eras, cultures, and events we haven’t or can’t experience ourselves.

Join the Atlas Obscura Society D.C. for "Making Comic History," our first ever comics workshop! Come learn how to craft your own history (or alternative history) comic from Eisner- and Harvey-nominated comic book editor and writer Jason Rodriguez and cartoonist, writer, and Spectrum award-winner Liz Laribee.

Jason and Liz will kick things off with a brief history of comics and an introduction to the process of bringing forgotten histories into four‐color (or grayscale) life. Then, you’ll have the chance to draw inspiration from a turn-of-the-century postcard and learn how to turn that inspiration into a comic book.

At the end of this event, all participants will be able to take home what they have created.
