Atlantic Hope Training
You will have the opportunity to interact with emergency responders and emergency preparedness students from all over the country and learn valuable leadership skills by participating in the Atlantic Hope three day humanitarian response field training exercise focused on leadership and followership, teamwork, confidence, and disaster response.
Details: A simulation-based, 3-day training exercise to introduce the concepts, challenges, and skills involved in international humanitarian aid work. Participants will learn about leadership and teamwork, communication, planning and logistics, negotiation, cultural interactions, situational awareness, search and rescue, needs assessment, Incident Command System, Radio Operations and Medical Aid in Austere Settings. Over the course of this 3-day exercise, participants will provide aid to the people of the earthquake-stricken nation of “Atlantica”. They will learn how to conduct needs assessments of communities and IDP camps, respond to emergencies, run a country office, and work as a team to help others in a humanitarian emergency.
You do NOT need to have any prior training or experience in emergency response and emergency preparedness. This opportunity is open to students with all levels of training.
When: March 2nd -5th. The challenge will run from March 3rd – March 5th but participants will need to fly out on March 2nd and will return either March 5th or March 6th.
Where: Fort Pierce, FL – Indian River State College
Student Cost: $500 (estimate for flight and registration costs– subject to change) Students are expected to purchase their own flight AFTER the selection process has concluded and the specific flight information has been sent out. All students will be on the same flight to facilitate transportation to and from the airport. This information will be sent directly to selected students. Flight costs are subject to change.
Training Hours: 30 hours
Students who participate in this exercise will earn 30 hours towards their 100 hour training requirement.
