About this event
Carmen Maria Machado's new memoir, In the Dream House, is an engrossing and wildly innovative account of a relationship gone bad, and a bold dissection of the mechanisms and cultural representations of psychological abuse. Tracing the full arc of a harrowing relationship with a charismatic but volatile woman, Machado struggles to make sense of how what happened to her shaped the person she was becoming.
Machado will read from the memoir and discuss the book and its themes with fiction writer Deb Olin Unferth. Machado will sign books following the program. Books will be available for purchase thanks to BookPeople. Guests can also talk with representatives from allgo, a nonprofit that provides support programs for queer people of color.
This event is presented in partnership with the Austin Public Library and BookPeople.
Members of The Library Foundation have access to priority seating for the program in the front two rows of the venue, as well as priority in the author signing line. To become a Library Foundation member, click here. Advanced purchases of In the Dream House from BookPeople come with a ticket to the signing line. After those with signing line tickets move through the line, the line will open to all members of the audience.
