Event description

Description

Gather at the Newsstand — home to hundreds of magazines, periodicals, travelogues, and journals — to celebrate print, design, and the written word.

This month, we’re welcoming co-editors Matt Haber and Kathleen Henderson of Creative Growth Magazine, a publication by the artists at Creative Growth, an art center in Oakland for artists with disabilities. Since 2016, Creative Growth Magazine has presented the work of these visionary artists, through their advice columns, recipes, short stories, horoscopes, fashion spreads, and Q&As (from love among artists to Bigfoot). We ask: How can a small, volunteer-driven magazine help represent those people that are rarely seen in mainstream publications? And, what does it mean for so-called "outsider artists" to see their work in a glossy, full-color magazine sold at shops and museums nationwide?

Thursday, February 21, from 6–8pm

  • Food and drink: 6-6:30pm
  • Talk begins: 6:30pm

Ticket includes admission, Tartine Manufactory bites and Fort Point beer, and a special gift from Aesop.
