2019 Professional Continuing Education Workshop

At the Intersection: Trauma Informed Care for Gender Diverse Clients*

PLEASE NOTE - This training is designed for clinicians who already have basic training with working with gender diverse clients.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify one's own positions of privilege and power and have at least one idea of how to utilize that to create more access for gender non-conforming people.

  2. List concrete ideas on how to make your physical practice space more affirming.

  3. Describe the ways structural oppression can lead to trauma in transgender clients.

  4. Identify ways to adapt a type of trauma therapy to be more trans-affirming.

  5. Explain culturally relevant ways to support your client during social or medical transition.

  6. Identify types of family work that might be helpful in the work with your client.

  7. Describe considerations for work with trans elders.

  8. List the ethical pitfalls and ethical standards or practice guidelines when working with transgender clients.

*The Pro Bono Counseling Project is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Pro Bono counseling Project maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The Maryland Boards of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counsellors and Therapists certify that this program meets the criteria for six credit hours of continuing education for social workers, professional counselors, and therapists licensed in Maryland.

CE credit is granted to participants with documented attendance at individual workshops and competed evaluation forms for those sessions. Attendance is monitored. Credit will not be granted to registrants who arrive more than 15 minutes late or depart 15 minutes early from a session. It is the responsibility of registrants to comply with these requirements.
