Rock n’ roll subculture is uniquely exciting in terms of the level of crowd participation, interactivity, and accessibility present at most shows. From the early days of the Sex Pistols and the Ramones, clear through to the Descendants and NOFX, the most passionate of players work hard to destroy the perceived boundary between the audiences and the band. “Hey, we’re just fans, too. You could be us.”

Assuming We Survive takes this ethos and amplifies it times infinity, barreling headfirst into each and every aspect of their existence with collective energy and unbridled optimism. Singer Adrian Estrella, armed with unmistakable charisma and good-cheer, will take a literal surfboard into the crowd, riding the physical and metaphorical wave of enthusiasm and electricity present at every single AWS show.

The band’s frontman is united in his goodwill and welcoming vibe with his musical cohorts and fellow Inland Empire, California mainstays: guitarist Phil Adams, bassist Joe Lawson, and drummer Kris Pasos. Assuming We Survive has generated steady steam and garnered accolades for nearly a decade. But in recent years, AWS has truly come into their own as their dedicated approach spreads their sound across the globe, amassing an army of smiling supporters eager to give the band their all.

It’s a wave of momentum and positivity that’s catapulted Assuming We Survive into the Top 50 on the New Artist charts and more importantly into the hearts and minds of a burgeoning crew of likeminded supporters and believers, from the kids who share their love for the band on social media to the band’s contemporaries sharing stages with them at Vans Warped Tour, Self-Help Festival, and Monster’s Aftershock.

All Roads Lead to Home, the band’s debut full-length on Third String Records, is a collection of inspiring jams running the gamut from pop-punk to Easycore, with aggressive energy befitting of the more extreme sides of the underground scene and soaring melodies with unapologetic hooks catchier than most Top 40 rock radio.

Assuming We Survive songs like the instant crowd pleaser “18 Days,” the nakedly self-reflecting “Open Water,” the devastatingly amazing “We Are All Zombies” and the acoustic duet “Next to Me” are a collective testament to the band’s creative diversity, dense musical influences, and willingness to pour themselves into their music. These songs are earnestly heartfelt. AWS is both motivated and motivating.

As part of the Supervillains Tour with Falling In Reverse, Attila, and Metro Station; the Christmas Vacation Tour with Falling In Reverse and Atreyu; South by Southwest; So What?! Music Fest; festival appearances with Avenged Sevenfold, Pierce The Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, Good Charlotte, and Real Friends; or headlining at Chain Reaction in Orange County, Assuming We Survive isn’t satisfied until every person in the house is energized, happy, and empowered. We Were Sharks

The We Were Sharks story is one of tenacity and passion, being told with catchy vocal hooks and crunchy guitar riffs. Since 2011 these Canadians have been dedicating their lives to pumping out tunes and tearing apart highways. With a recently solidified five-man lineup We Were Sharks are poised to pop.

After their debut LP release, Highways, in 2012 the band started gaining national notoriety and laid the foundations of a loyal fan base. Reinforced by their most accomplished work to date, 2015’s Not A Chance EP, which was released through Panic State Records. The record’s single “Bridge Burner” is quickly approaching 3,000,000 plays on Spotify.

2018 brought the release of “Lost Touch” the bands debut release through Victory Records. Fans of the band rejoiced in its updated sound, massive hooks, and expressive content. “Lost Touch” not only expanded the bands fanbase, but within 1 year amassed over 5,000,000 streams.

2019 is business as usual for the band, continuing and wrapping up the end of the “Lost Touch” cycle. The boys are hard a work writing the follow up to “Lost Touch” to be released this fall.

Based in Ottawa and collecting members from the far reaches of Eastern Canada, We Were Sharks continue to wield the full-force of Canadian alternative music. Through a penchant for blending melodic harmony with powerful dissonance they continue to produce infectious music. Even though these boys already have a lot of mileage under their belts, their book is far from written.

Never Loved

There was a period of time when Camm Knopp wasn’t sure what he was going to do. He’d already played in a few bands and had even ghostwritten some songs for another artist, even approaching acclaimed producer Matt Squire (Demi Lovato , All Time Low, Panic! At The Disco, Ariana Grande) for his expertise. The problem was that nothing was really clicking. Undeterred and still inspired, however, he began writing songs for himself, using his own frustrations as inspiration. Never Loved wasn ’t even a glimmer in his eye at the time. That soon changed.

“I was going from project to project and it just wasn’t right,” he explains. “I was in college and not having a good time. I didn’t know what I was doing or what I was going to do. I knew what I loved and what I wanted to do, but people thought I was crazy that I wanted to make music. I was just fed up and felt like I had to do something, because I was so frustrated and wanted to move forward.

” Knopp took the reins by sending a few demos to Squi re to see what he thought. They hadn’t had all that much interaction and had never met in person, but Squire remembered him and, more importantly, really liked his demos. And so the pair began working together and everything just fell into place. After a p eriod of creative stagnation, Knopp had found the inspiration he’d been lacking. “Dead Inside” – this debut EP’s punchy, catchy, hooky opener – was the first track the pair recorded and it proved to be something of a catalyst. In fact, Knopp was so certain about these songs and working with Squire that he took the plunge and self - funded the recordings.

During this time period, while Knopp was in and out of the studio, he started assembling the rest of Never Loved, namely bassist and long - term friend Jay G ayoso, and drummer Kevin Blackburn, who the pair knew through the local scene. And while Knopp already had the absolute courage of his convictions for this set of songs, the chemistry with the other two cemented it. Slick yet savage, they navigate his inte rnal anxieties, insecurities and emotions via crunching, riffs and a knack for killer yet off - kilter hooks and soaring choruses. Underpinned by a ’90s grunge/alt. rock aesthetic, these four songs are vital, heartfelt bursts of intelligent and emotional ang st. “Dead Inside” battles against Knopp’s feelings of creative stagnation and uncertainty, while “Charged” is an almost sinister take on power - pop, all fizzing, fuzzy guitars, visceral screams and existential subject matter. Yet, Never Loved isn’t a band w ho want to stick to just one genre, either – “Gone” is one long crescendo that’s riddled with intense electronic flourishes, while “Goddamn” is a perfect pop song that doesn’t sound anything like a pop song and is all the better for it. Not only that, but it leaves the door wide open for the future.

“With this EP,” says Knopp, “I was just writing to write. Everyone always says that you’ve got to pick a sound, but I’m like ‘No way – just write you.’ People will see with this EP see that we have a few differ ent sides, so we can go down different paths in the future. I like that we’re not pigeonholed into a genre.”

Together, these four songs mark Knopp out as a truly passionate, skilled songwriter, and Never Loved as a tight, cohesive unit. Each track also ec hoes the grand ambitions and ideas they have when it comes to being in a band. This is what they want to do and the only thing they want to do. They’ve already shown they’ve got the work ethic, the drive and the determination to make it happen, not to mention the songwriting chops. It’s early days – this debut EP on Equal Vision is just the very first step – but they’ve already looking far into the future, both literally and metaphorically.

“I’ve already written a lot of new material,” he says of Never Loved’s next steps. “The goal is to build a really solid fan base – and to be the biggest band in the world. It’d be awesome to be the next Nirvana, but we want to just keep growing and become the best we can be.” On the basis of this EP alone, none of that actually seems like too much of a stretch.
