Event description

Description

Ever look at your students and think, These guys are the future. My future. Our future? Whoa, I hope they know what they’re doing!

The AssignmentNOLA master class is appropriate for middle and high school teachers (especially civics/social studies), service learning and curriculum coordinators, problem-based interdisciplinary curriculum leaders and any other educator interested in taking student learning out of the classroom and into the world.

Join us at this New Orleans education conference for a one-of-a-kind professional development experience geared to helping your students impact causes that rock their world. During five days in New Orleans, you - their teacher - will be challenged to:

  • Have your students look deeply and critically at pressing social, political and economic issues affecting your particular city

  • Create cross-curricular, problem-based lessons that will light the fire of civic engagement in your students

  • Use the design thinking process to support your students as they create action plans that tackle critical problems affecting their region - however large or small

  • Produce dynamic social media campaigns, impossible-to-ignore video PSA’s and short movies similar to those that students will produce in your classroom

You’ll leave your AssignmentNOLA experience with a complete lesson plan - yep, one that even CCSS will approve! - for:

  • implementing strategies that identify specific issues in your city

  • advancing skills in online research, organization, and collaboration

  • reaching out purposefully via social media

  • transforming research into authentic campaigns

  • highlighting research through skillful video production
