Assessment of Safety in Public Transit in Kenya
Event Information
About this event
Safe public transit for women and girls accounts for and accommodates the reality of the travel patterns of women and girls. Public transit trips have the potential to be less safe since many women must walk through, or wait in, unsafe areas in order to access public transit. Moreover, at odd times of day and in isolated places, public transit may be unreliable (by necessity many women must travel through the city very early in the morning and late at night) (Peters, 2002,7)
This project based training aims to document security pain points and strategies adopted by different cities in the world to ensure inclusive development in public transit systems. In Nairobi Kenya this project will explore and analyze what safety means for commuters using public service vehicles.
The training is broken down into 3 modules:
Data Collection - 10th March
Learn how digital data collection tools support a complete field data management workflow. Students will be exposed to best practices to designing data collection tools and the setup of these tools to meet their data collection needs.
You will have the opportunity to use your mobile device to complete the step by step exercises.
Tools to be covered: ODK and Survey123
Data Analytics - 31st March
Prerequisite: Data Collection Module above
The three weeks duration after the first training is to give ample time to the data collection exercise.
Reporting and Visualization - 21st April
Prerequisite: Data Analytics Module above
Attendees will be given relevant datasets to enrich the training and create useful outputs.
