4:00 - 7:00 PM at Union Seminary at Riverside Church
The Assessment Matters community represents a unique opportunity for schools across New York City to collaborate on solving one of the most vexing problems in teaching, engaging teachers and students in meaningful assessment of student learning.
How did assessment become a dirty word? And how can we redeem it?
Our featured speaker, Anya Kamenetz, is the lead digital education reporter for NPR and the author of several books about the future of education. Her most recent, The Test, documents the failure of testing in our schools and posits more constructive paths forward. The Test addresses the fundamental question: How do we preserve space for self-directed learning and development, especially when we still want all children to hit the mark?
Anya was named a 2010 Game Changer in Education by the HuffingtonPost and received 2009 and 2010 National Awards for Education Reporting from the Education Writers Association.
The event will include an overview of the structure and strategy of the Assessment Matters Community as well as time for schools to plan for successful implementation.
Note: This event follows Day 1 of our Leading Teacher Teams workshop which will be attended by your Teacher Leaders. A separate email to register teachers for those workshops will follow, or register them here.
