Assessment and Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders: An Introduction

Psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder, anxiety related disorders and PTSD combined with substance use and addictive disorders are some of the biggest challenges we face in behavioral healthcare. This combination, referred to as co-occurring disorders is more an expectation than an exception. This workshop will provide an introduction to the assessment and treatment of this combination of disorders. Symptoms and behaviors will be explained, applicable evidence-based best practices will be reviewed and case studies will be utilized to illustrate.

Objectives
1. Develop an understanding of Co-occurring disorders and how they effect a person served and their family.
2. Participants will be introduced to a comprehensive format including standardized tools to support assessment and treatment planning
3. Participants will be introduced to evidence-based best practices and how to employ them within a comprehensive service system to serve people with co-occurring disorders
