Event description

Description

Come share both the joys and the challenges of supporting a loved one with Autism. Bring your lunch if you'd like! We regret any inconvenience it may cause, but childcare is not available.

Topic: "Self Care and Coping Strategies for Families Impacted by ASD"

"You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

“Self-care is a necessity, not a luxury.”

You’ve heard these sayings hundreds of times. Yet raising an Autistic child can make you feel like you’ll never have the time, money, or energy to take care of you.It may sound impossible, but you can honor your own needs while still showing up for your child…WITHOUT guilt.

In this workshop, we’ll talk about what is self-care and what is not; because Pinterest doesn’t always get this right. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of why self-care is critical for special needs parents. Most importantly, you’ll leave with practical tools and strategies to make self-care automatic, easy, and enjoyable.

Questions? Please contact our Chapter Facilitator, Freda Dias, at wakechapter@autismsociety-nc.org

PLEASE NOTE: In case of inclement weather and/or WCPSS closings, an Eventbrite e-mail will go out to those who have registered for the Lunch'n'Learn event informing of any cancellation of the event. If ever in doubt, you may call the ASNC State Office at 800-442-2762 for information.

Our next Lunch'n'Learn will be on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 (topic to be announced). We will take a break for the summer months and resume our Lunch'n'Learns in September 2019. If you have an autism-related topic you'd like us to explore at a Lunch'n'Learn, please send suggestions to wakechapter@autismsociety-nc.org

We strive to keep our monthly Lunch'n'Learn meetings free of cost to families. Because our Wake Chapter resides in the same county as the ASNC State Office, we enjoy meeting space free of cost to the chapter, and we often are able to have clinical or other professional staff from ASNC present to us free of charge. If you are able, please consider a tax-decuctible donation in any amount - no amount is too small - to the Autism Society of NC online at https://www.autismsociety-nc.org/donate-online/ or by mail including this PDF: https://www.autismsociety-nc.org/wp-content/uploads/donatebymail_asnc_form_2.pdf

If it's more convenient, feel free to bring your cash or check donation to a Lunch'n'Learn meeting!

We hope you will consider designating your donation to the Wake County Chapter. You are also welcome to volunteer for the chapter if you'd like to coordinate a Moms (or Dads!) Night Out, Coffee Chat, Fundraiser or other event. Contact Freda by e-mail at wakechapter@autismsociety-nc.org
