Description

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Course Dates are Wednesdays, September 18 - November 20, 2019.

Eligibility: You must be 16+ years of age to be eligible to register for this course.

This 10-week course is third in the series of American Sign Language classes. This course introduces basic ASL conversation and features core vocabulary, common signing phrases, non-manual components (facial expression, body postures), signing space, fingerspelling, numbers, loan signs, cultural protocols, rules of ASL grammar and structure. Deaf cultural behavior is introduced in the classroom and through readings, activities and Deaf community events.

Pre-requisite: Successful completion of ASL102 or recommendation by way of a placement test.

A “no-voice” teaching method is used to reinforce the learning experience. You'll learn through classroom instruction and role-play, as well as videotext and a workbook. The videotext and workbook supplement and reinforce the classroom instruction so you can review, practice and retain what you learn.

Our qualified Deaf instructors use Signing Naturally, a sign language curriculum that teaches both ASL and Deaf culture to help you better understand the communication needs of the Deaf community.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please register as soon as possible to avoid class cancellations due to insufficient registrations. In some cases, we may reduce the number of course hours to accommodate smaller registration numbers. We do this so that the course can continue for the benefit of our students' progress. If there is a change, we will notify you.
