Asian Womxn Rage: A Zine Making Workshop
Description
Join this zine making workshop led by Bianca Ng, designer and artist, and Dr. Leilani Salvo Crane, psychologist, for a restorative evening. In this workshop we will address our "righteous rage" as Asian womxn through group discussions, writing, collaging, and drawing. The facilitators seek to provide a supportive environment in which we may explore, express, and process our feelings about both intrafamilial and sociocultural influences that have enraged us.
While anger is a natural human phenomenon, there are many reasons that justify Asian womxn’s anger specifically. Rage from being subjugated in patriarchal families, ethnic enclaves, cultures, and societies may have seeped into our unconscious over many generations. Activated anger may, on one hand, feel energizing. It can spur action on the interpersonal, professional, and political fronts. Sustained anger may also cause wear on the body, as overactive adrenal glands give way to adrenal fatigue, depression, and chronic illness.
By being in a supportive space, it can be an opportunity for Asian womxn to share without fear of judgment, adverse consequence, or denial. We seek to explore, contemplate, gain insight, and ultimately to find community with one another through this process.
