Asia-Singapore Conference on Sport Science (ACSS 2018)

Asia-Singapore Conference on Sport Science (ACSS 2018), themed “A Multidisciplinary Approach to Enhance Sport Performance”, the two-day Conference will offer participants the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and best practices in the world of Sport Science. Leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars will attend to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of Sport Science. We encourage research papers and training approaches based on integrating different disciplines applied in Sport Science to enhance sport performance to be submitted to the conference. Expect presentations on the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns, as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of Sport Science.

Conference Papers Publishing:

Authors are invited to submit their full papers after the conference for consideration for publication in MDPI journal, Sports (ISSN 2075-4663). The journal is an international, open access journal published quarterly online by MDPI. Sports is indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI – Web of Science) and other databases.

MDPI will give expedited reviewing for ACSS 2018 submissions. There is a 20% article processing charge discount when the submitted full paper is selected for inclusion in MDPI journal Sports.

Dr. Ian Heazlewood is Associate Professor in Exercise and Sports Science at Charles Darwin University and an academic specialising in human movement, exercise and sport science for more than 25 years. He has also worked in private industry in health-related research. Extensive coach and research consultant roles for elite/high performance athletes, including past world champions, national and state champions and minor medalists across many sports and current national and state champions and minor medalists across many sports, especially masters athletics. These sports have included international master’s sports, athletics, rugby union, rugby league, weight/power lifting, squash, Australian and NSW BMX, Australian cricket and NSW and Australian Touch. Currently an NT high performance athletics coach and consultant to NT Athletics.

Dr. Stephen Burns
Physical Education & Sports Science, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University

Dr. Stephen Burns is an Associate Professor within the Physical Education and Sports Science Academic Group, National Institute of Education at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from Loughborough University in the U.K. and has previously held posts at the University of Texas at El Paso and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in the U.S. before coming to NTU. Dr. Burns’ research examines how exercise affects fat oxidation and metabolism. He is actively engaged in research collaborations with individuals in universities within Asia, Europe and the U.S. and works with industry partners.

Dr. Nick Aplin

Nick Aplin has been lecturing in PE and Sport in Singapore since 1985. He is married with three sons. His wife (Siok Choo) and his sons (Anders, Christer and Niels) have all represented Singapore in international sport.

Dr Aplin’s first book – ‘To The Finishing Line’ – was published in 2002. In 2005, he was the lead author of the first complete profile of Singaporean sportsmen and women to have participated at the Olympic Games – ‘Singapore Olympians: The Complete Who’s Who 1936-2004.’

His research interests focus on the role of values in teaching Physical Education (PE) and in the pursuit of sports excellence. The history of sport in colonial Singapore, notably association football, represents a current and ongoing source of fascination.

Dr Aplin has been engaged in local television commentary work since 1997, including events such as the SEA Games, the Champions League and the S.League. He has covered sports such as athletics, badminton, boxing, dancesport, football, netball, rugby, silat, squash, swimming, and table tennis. In 2010, he was a lead commentator for the local cable TV network coverage of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) hosted by Singapore. In 2015, he commentated on the ASEAN Paralympic Games hosted by Singapore.





Dr Tan Jing Hee

Dr Tan Jing Hee
Executive Director & Chairman of its Academic Board of East Asia Institute of Management

Dr. Tan Jing Hee is an Executive Director of East Asia Institute of Management as well as the Chairman of its Academic Board. He started work as a Retail Manager in a family business dealing with pharmaceutical products, toiletries and film development and processing. Dr Tan went on to become Senior Science Master of a government secondary school. After five years, he re-joined the private sector as a Merchandising Manager of Robinsons Departmental Store, with responsibilities over 6 departments in Menswear Division. In 1973, he joined the Singapore Institute of Management, initially as Information, Publications and Research officer before moving into management development responsibilities. During his 25 years stay in the institute, he helped to build it into the premier HRD organisation in the region. While in SIM, Dr Tan was also involved in establishing enterprise-wide MBO systems in six medium and large organisations in Singapore. In 1987, he co-edited a book on Developing Managers In Asia, published by Addison-Wesley. Dr Tan was the Chief Operating Officer of SIM before leaving it to pursue other interests. In 1994, he wrote doctoral thesis on Developing A Factor Model of Management Work in Singapore, for which he was awarded his Ph.D from Henley Mangement College/Brunel University.
