Event description

Description

The Advanced Summer Institute for Early Childhood Educators is designed for experienced ECE professionals (5+ years in the field) seeking to reinvigorate their teaching practice. Join us on Saturday, June 3rd from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm for “Understanding the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences who teach and work with children” presented by Laurie Prusso Hatch. The focus of the workshop will be on reflective teaching and strengthening adult child relationships. We will begin with a review of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) as they relate to adults working with young children. We will explore some of the research and the practical ways to support Early Childhood professionals in their work.

Teacher Disposition is among the most influential aspects of the early childhood classroom. Many ECE professionals themselves have experienced challenges in their early years and even adverse childhood experiences. This workshop will introduce ACES and the adaptations we make in our early years that later influence our teaching disposition and behaviors. It will provide tools for instructors and supervisors to use in working with adult learners and employees.

Presentation by
Laurie Prusso Hatch, M.Ed.
Laurie Prusso Hatch is a retired Professor of Child Development. Her work focuses on emotional and social development in young children and all human beings. She has specific expertise in working with children with challenging behaviors and the effects of trauma on children and families.
