Teachers: Jennifer and Omar Olivas

Jennifer Olivas is from the small town of Festus, Missouri. She attended Webster University in St. Louis where she received a BFA in dance. As a professional, Jennifer has performed all across Europe and The United States, in China, Korea and Australia. She has performed with distinguished groups such as David Dorfman’s Dance out of Seasons, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens de Montreal’s The Nutcracker, Paul Taylor 2 in Esplanade, Inaside Chicago Dance Company, MusicalFare's American Rhapsody and Neglia Ballet's The Nutcracker. Jennifer was a founding company member of Buffalo’s Lehrer Dance and toured for three years, before she moved to Los Angeles to dance with Diavolo Dance Theater for four seasons. Jennifer's teaching credits include teaching master classes all over the world and setting works at several universities. She now resides closer to home where she currently teaches at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Omar Olivas was born and raised in Santa Ana, California. He began his training at Saint Joseph Ballet under the artistic supervision of director, Beth Burns. Omar graduated as a Haggerty and William Gillespie Scholar (BFA Dance) from the University of California, Irvine, where he was a dancer with Donald Mckayle’s student repertory dance company, Etudes. As a professional, Omar has performed with such distinguished groups as BackhausDance, Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company, Santa Clarita Ballet and Neglia Ballet. Omar premiered Donald Mckayle’s Minstrel Man at the Conservatoire in Paris, France and Tammy L. Wong’s ”About Last Night" for the Esplanade’s Da:ns Festival Singapore in 2006. He was a member of Diavolo Dance Theater, based out of Los Angeles California, from 2009-2014, where he toured nationally and internationally. Aside from dancing, Omar has been teaching dance for about 8 years. He was invited by La Salle College of the Arts, in Singapore, to set a piece for The Esplanade's Da:ns Festival in 2008. In 2011 he paired with his wife Jennifer Huffman Olivas, to co- teach master classes and set brand new works of their own across the country. Omar has just completed his Masters in Kinesiology at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he is also on faculty teaching for the dance department.

CONTEMPORARY

Teacher: Rafael Tillery

A native of Chicago, IL, Rafael began his choreographic journey at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN, from where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Theatre and Dance in 2013. He has attended the 2012 American Dance Festival, Trisha Brown Dance Workshop, and the Garth Fagan Dance Intensive. He performed as a guest artist alongside the Garth Fagan Dance Company, Shen Wei Dance Arts, and the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. Rafael danced with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company II under the direction of Shonna Hickman-Matlock. In 2014 Rafael relocated to St. Louis, MO to join the Modern American Dance Company(MADCO) where he performed for two years under the direction of Stacy West. Since then he has had the opportunity to teach, choreograph, and work with a number of other performance studios and dance companies in the St. Louis area such as Consuming Kinetics Dance Company, Karlovsky Dance Company, Patzius Performing Arts, Kirkwood Dance Center, and Michelle's School of Dance. Rafael has also had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Molissa Fenley, Debbie Blunden-Diggs, William B. McClellan, Jr., Nejla Yatkin, Ronin Koresh, Rodney A. Brown, B.B Miller, and many more.

HIP HOP (Choreography and Krumping Fundamentals)

Teacher: Manual "Lukky" Harvey

Manual "Lukky" Harvey is one of the premier hiphop instructors in Kansas City, MO. He is currently over the hiphop programs for several different studios here in Kansas City, MO while at the same time hosting workshops, teaching at intensives and camps, and also taking classes at the Pulse on Tour, Monsters of Hip Hop, JUMP Dance Convention, Tremaine Dance Convention, NRG dance conventions and more.

He is the creator of the iPush Workshop Series which is a company who brings in industry professionals to Kansas City, MO and surrounding areas to teach workshops and to invest in the dancers in our community. He is also the founder and creative director of iPush "theCOMMUNITY" performance company.

Manual began dancing as a street dancer and freestyler in the styles of popping, breaking, house and krumping and now his main focus is hiphop influenced choreography. He is apart of immaBEAST the company, under the direction of WilldaBeast Adams, also signed with LA based talent agency, Clear Talent Group. He travels and trains often at Millennium Dance Complex, Debbie Reynolds and Movement Life studios in LA. He has trained under industry professionals such as Nappy Tabs, Willdabeast Adams, Brian Friedman, Laura Edwards, David Moore, Bobby Newberry, Tony Bellissimo, Jaja Vankova, Cris Judd, Dave Scott, Tricia Miranda and several other more.

Manual's credits include Three Blind Saints (the movie), Blood Money (stageplay), Ginuwine, Tech N9ne, MacKenzie Nicole, Krizz Kaliko, immaBEAST, TeRance Golden, Sauce Remix, Brisk Iced Tea and more.


MODERN (Limon and Humphrey Techniques)

Teacher: Dawn Karlovsky

Dawn is a prolific choreographer whose thought provoking, athletic, and emotionally candid dances have been commissioned and presented by universities, modern dance companies and theatre companies both regionally and nationally. Ms. Karlovsky is the founder and artistic director of Karlovsky & Company Dance, a contemporary modern dance company dedicated to exploring and nurturing the art of dance with innovative choreography that celebrates the human experience.
 
Dawn's recent work focuses on developing dance for the camera. Her video, Closer, created in collaboration with New York-based choreographer, Megan Nicely, was presented at the American College Dance Festival – ScreenDance Festival in March 2011.

Dawn's choreography has been commissioned and presented by Webster University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL), University of Minnesota–Duluth, University of Utah, American College Dance Festival (ACDFA), Dance St. Louis, Tsinghua University (Beijing, China), Christopher Watson Dance Co. (Minneapolis), Ressl Dance!, Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis, That Uppity Theater, and others. Dawn Karlovsky came to St. Louis in 1998 after dancing and touring with companies in San Francisco, Louisville, and Chicago including Afterimages Repertory Dance, California Contemporary Dance, and GASH/VOIGT Dance Theatre here in St. Louis, and in addition, performing with many independent artists including contact improvisation works with Andrew Harwood, David Marchant, Liz Claire, and Angela Culbertson, project collaborations with Mary Ann Rund, and performing Isadora Duncan repertoire under the direction of Dr. Alice Bloch.

Locally, her choreography has been presented in festivals including Spring to Dance, St. Lou Fringe Festival, Dancing in the Street, St. Louis Dance Festival, and Contemporary Moves hosted by Dance St. Louis. Full evening concert programs by Karlovsky & Company Dance are presented annually.
 
Karlovsky holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Northern Illinois University. Dawn Karlovsky is a faculty member of the Performing Arts Department at Washington University and the Department of Dance at Webster University in St. Louis, dance faculty at COCA, and a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique.


Individuals classes cost $15 each ($20 at the door) and all class sizes will be limited. Pay for all 4 at once, and they are only $10 each, for a total of only $40 in advance. That's a steal!!

These classes are for ages 13 to adult. There will be a limited amount of observers allowed. Observers must pay $5 cash on site. No children are allowed to observe. Please pay with cash or check (made payable to Ashleyliane Dance Company). 

Note: If you are new to ADC classes, you will need to sign a release form upon arrival to your first class. All dancers under 18 will need a parent/guardian to sign one for them. If you would like a release form sent in advance, please contact us!
