ASCE OC Sustainability Committee is partnering with OC Parks to host a Habitat Restoration event on February 12th, 2023 at Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve.

Habitat restoration in general is to rehabilitate an area to recreate a functioning ecosystem. Habitat restorations bring benefits such as increasing local biodiversity and species populations, as well as improving water quality from decreased erosion. See additional benefits at the following links: Habitat loss / restoration and Habitat Restoration.

In this particular event, we will assist OC Parks to plant and water native plants. Invite your friends and colleagues out, wear long pants, bring your closed toe shoes, water bottle and sunscreen, and be prepared to get your hands dirty!

Event Day:

  1. Park in main parking lot or on street.
  2. Sign-In for the event begins at 9am. Adult guardian required for minors under 16yrs. Adult guardian signatures are required for volunteers under 18yrs.
  3. Please bring a signed copy of the waiver with you when you Sign-In, or sign the waiver prior to sign in at 9am.
  4. Water is provided, but please bring your own reusable bottle to refill with water.
  5. Event will end at 11:30am unless we have weather extremes, such as rain, or high temperatures that cause us to terminate early.
  6. Lunch will be provided afterward.
