Gorge Dam Removal
The 57-foot-high Gorge Dam was built on the Cuyahoga River between Akron and Cuyahoga Falls in 1911-1912. The dam is scheduled to be removed in 2019 at a cost of $70 million to remove the contaminated soils behind the dam and for demolition. Removing the dam will provide a major boost to water quality of the Cuyahoga River.
Bill Zawiski from the Ohio EPA Northeast Office will provide an update on the Gorge Dam Removal. His presentation will include the engineering, construction, funding, and environmental challenges related to its removal.
