Overview

This training is for those persons who are at risk of disturbing asbestos while carrying out their normal everyday work, or who may influence how work is carried out.

Important

Awareness training is not enough if you plan to carry out any work with asbestos containing materials.

It is essential that all persons removing, working, handling or accessing Asbestos containing materials undertake a higher level of training for non-licensable work prior to any related work with asbestos.

Learning by delivery of

Tutor information, group activity and discussion, visual aids, dvd, powerpoint and workbook

Training Workshop Aims

To gain awareness and knowledge in order to help us to,

  • Contribute to the process of dynamic risk assessment in terms of potential exposure.
  • Significantly reduce the risks of putting oneself and others at risk of exposure
  • Attain certification

 Objectives

To have a relevant knowledge of;

  • Asbestos - nature and origin
  • Types of asbestos and asbestos containing materials
  • The properties of asbestos
  • Its effects on health
  • Possible locations of asbestos in buildings
  • Our responsibilities under asbestos legislation.

Identify, Manage & Monitor

  • Relevant health and safety legislation and background
  • Working safely/duty holders responsibilities re asbestos
  • The process of risk assessment.
  • Asbestos Management
  • Asbestos surveys
  • Asbestos decontamination
  • Safe working in areas where asbestos is present
  • Emergency procedures/accidental damage/general procedures

To have answers to these questions;

  • What are the moral, legal and financial consequences
  • How do I avoid the consequences of exposure to asbestos

To test what we have learned;

  • Engage and contribute during the learning
  • Complete a multiple choice measurement of today’s learning.
