Description
On October 20th from 9:00 to Noon Let's take a stand against Arundo!
Arundo donax is a growing problem in our watershed. It takes over whole areas of the creek, sucking up water, and destroying habitat for fish and wildlife. It spreads rapidly, We can stop the spread of Arundo donax in our creeks! Join Supervisor Candace Andersen, Mayor of DanvilleNewell Arnerich, the Walnut Creek Watershed Council, Contra Costa County Flood Control District, and Contra Costa Resource Conservation District as they work to remove this invasive species from San Ramon Creek.
Teamwork makes the dream work!
Removing Arundo is tricky business, and requires volunters working together, not only to cut the plant down, but to move the stalks out of the creek. Arundo can spread a number of ways, one of those is floating downstream and taking root in in a new place. There are a number of tasks to help with, cutting the Arundo, but another important task is the "bucket brigade", volunteers will move the cut stalks up the bank and away from the water, forming a pile at the top.
By spending a few hours of your Saturday morning with us, you can make a big difference!
This project can be used for community service hours.
