Event description

Description

Artwashing & Gentrification

In this class participants will unpack the socio-political construct of artwashing, its meaning, and the way art and artists have been manipulated by power structures as a means to gentrify and displace members of undeserved urban communities that have long suffered from the effects of racism, segregation and economic divestment. Intersecting concepts including systemic and institutional racism, community development, redlining, and other principles will be considered.
