Getting From Art School to an Art Career: The Legal and Business Basics Every Artist & Creative Professional Should Know

Art schools are great havens of creativity. But they don’t prepare Artists for the realities of the business side of the art world. This workshop covers the fundamental business and legal topics Artists need to be aware of and seeks to dispel some of the myths
about the law in relation to Art.

In this Workshop, we will touch on:

  • What to look for in Contracts (including some negotiating tactics)
  • Artists’ Moral Rights (particularly under VARA and CAPA)
  • What’s left of the California Resale Royalty Act
  • Basic Tax concepts to be aware of
  • The pros and cons of various business formations
  • The hows and whys of Copyright, Trademark, and Licensing
