Description

Arts and Humanities Research through a Gender Lens

2017 saw an increased focus on issues relating to gender: from the Women’s March which followed Trump’s inauguration, to the Weinstein Scandal and its widespread ramifications. In the UK, this focus has been further intensified by the disclosure of the BBC’s pay gap and allegations of sexual assault involving members of Parliament. The Scottish Government is currently in the process of reforming its Gender Recognition Act 2004 to simplify how transgender people can change the gender on their birth certificates, and consulting on providing legal gender recognition for non binary people.

This year, 2018, marks 100 years since the first women in the UK were allowed to vote. Reflecting on this milestone, and in the face of the current sociopolitical climate, cross disciplinary discussion regarding gender and its intersecting categories is both timely and necessary.

So come and join us for a day of lively, fanscinating and thought provoking debate around Art & Humanities research viewed through the gender lens.

The programme for the day will be published in early April.
