Event description

Description

We are showing the power of the arts to provide older adults with vital and creative lives through Arts and Aging in Missouri 2019 on Thursday, April 4 in Columbia, MO. Speakers and performers will tell their stories, share their success, and help us learn how to reach and work with the older adults in our communities with the arts. Every day, 10,000 people turn 65. Adults over 85 are the fastest growing age sector. Learn how to engage this important demographic in your community.

Registration ends Monday, April 1. No joke.

We know the arts add value beyond the aesthetic, using creativity to enhance outcomes that are healing, economic, educational, and engaging. If you are a family member, professional, business, artist, arts organization, arts administrator, nonprofit, foundation, educator, or government agency that cares about our aging population, this event is for you.

Our keynote speaker, Gary Glazner, poet and founder of Alzheimer's Poetry Project, will address the importance of the arts and aging and how the arts benefit active older adults and communities. But it doesn’t stop there. You will also see and hear:

Presenters

  • Aliki Barnstone, Missouri State Poet Laureate

  • Jon Kay, Ph.D., director, Traditional Arts Indiana

  • Solomon Thurman, 2018 Missouri Arts Award Honoree for Individual Artist and owner, 10th Street Gallery, St. Louis

Performances by musicians, storytellers, and more will entertain and inspire us.

The program also includes videos featuring arts and aging programs from across the country. It will be a lively, creative, heartfelt, and moving day attesting to the power of aging creatively. Please join us.
