Event description

Description

Meggie Zayas from Reclaiming Me and Alexandra Michelle have come together to partner with Students Against Sexual Assault to host an open mic night at University of Illinois. We ask each performance be roughly 5 minutes in length and can be any type of artistic expression from monologues, stories, performance art, poetry, song, dance etc.

Artistic expression can help guide us through tough emotions, help us on a healing journey or express our joys and successes! This open mike is open to everyone of all backgrounds, to both survivors and supporters. If you are a survivor who would like to share your story but would prefer someone to read it in your place, please feel free to send us your stories as you would like them to be read. Email reclaimingme1@gmail.com if you would like to be a part of this open mike. If there is room, we will accept walk-ins the night of, however time slots are first come first serve.

Any proceeds collected from this event will be donated to R.A.C.E.S. a local sexual assault crisis center. Due to the budget impasse in Illinois, they are limited to only providing their 24-hour hotline services and medical advocacy. R.A.C.E.S. works hard to serve its community and provide the very necessary support for survivors. As they rebuild, we wish to help them do that. You can donate at the event, purchase raffle tickets or bring any in-kind donations:

If you have any questions regarding this event or would like to register as a performer/speaker please email reclaimngme1@gmail.com.

Stay tuned for updated location and time!

We want to thank you for your support!
