When & Where
Artportunity Knocks & The Artrepreneurship Institute
Incorporated in 2007, Artportunity Knocks took their relationship with the community and combined it with their relationship with the arts to form one of Georgia's Award Winning School of the Arts After-School and Summer programs. Our mission is to empower youth through Positive Arts Self-Expression (PASE), Education, and Service. Students gain in depth knowledge in the arts comparable to what some may learn in college.
Artportunity Knocks became the catalyst for change in their communities. "I was tired of people complaining about the negativity existing in music. I wanted to be a part of the solution and teach kids how to create positive music that the whole family could listen to," said Chris Woods, Founder of Artportunity Knocks. Through the arts, they've inspired, motivated, and exchange information that sparked hope in these under served youth. It is their passion and their heart to give youth an opportunity of a lifetime! They believe they have created a unique approach (niche) to reaching this generation: loving mentorship, positive arts self-expression, and most of all ART OPPORTUNITIES!
Three Pillars governs Artportunity Knocks activities and they are:
Positive Arts - We believe that music/arts should be kept "clean" and positive by omitting lyrics that uses profane words, violence, drug/sex promotion, and degradation to women. We believe the arts should be inspiring, uplifting, and used to provoke positive behaviors.
Education - We believe that every child should graduate high school and have an opportunity to experience the arts in college.
Community Service - We believe that positive arts should be used in the community to spark hope and positive change. We also believe in serving our military troops through morale building arts experiences (which is also an opportunity for our students to display their gifts live in front of an audience).
Today, Artportunity Knocks has leveraged partnerships and alliances to serve thousands of youth in the Southeast! Each program is geared toward creating a new generation of educated artists, musicians and performing artists who will go out into the world and dispense hope and love to others through positive arts.
