Hawk Salvage is hosting its first annual Artists Showcase, with a grand finale by featured artist, Diana Calderon.
About this event
Located in the historic Grand Avenue arts district, Hawk Salvage features a carefully curated selection of vintage, industrial, reclaimed, antique, one-of-a-kind finds and oddities. In addition to home décor, furnishings and assorted treasures and collectibles, the store offers an extensive selection of rare and heirloom artwork, including oil paintings, pencil and charcoal drawings, lithographs, sculptures, woodcuts, etchings, and more.
As a way of merging the old with the new, Hawk Salvage is hosting its first annual Artists Showcase on Saturday, April 2 from 6 to 10 p.m., with a grand finale by featured artist, Diana Calderon at 8:30 p.m. Guests will be treated to art in all forms, including a variety of food and beverage offerings, including wagyu and vegan sliders by Bucky Burgers, musical performances by Handsome Granthom, artist demonstrations featuring live models, vegan/eco tattooing by Sophia Alessia, and a thoughtfully chosen display of works from local and national artists, featuring a variety of mediums and styles. All spotlighted artists will be on hand to answer questions and interact with guests, and all art will be available for purchase.
The event will conclude with a moving repetition performance art showcase, “Costras”, by internationally recognized interdisciplinary artist, Diana Calderon. A Mexican immigrant raised in the borderlands of El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, she creates work using bi-national materials from Mexico and the U.S., with a blend of traditional and contemporary techniques such as sculptural installation, public and performance art, and murals. Concepts within her work include an investigation of her ancestral roots, the immigrant journey, human connection, or a lack of connection. For the past few years, her body of work has focused on exploring processes, breaking traditional instruction and personal filters.
