In support of Mental Health Awareness month, Artists Recovery Movement invites you to join us for a weekend filled with the beauty and healing power of the arts, community, and creative exploration.

We invite you to join us at the Moving Poets Cabin where we will host a series of complimentary workshops that provide a first-hand look at how we engage with our community members. Please do not miss this opportunity to learn more about ARM, explore a variety of activities, and enjoy the company of all creative walks of life.
Help us give back to the community that saved our own lives and is the fuel that drives our purpose and intentional living.

"The Unbound Self": Friday, May 19th, 6-9:00pm
Sozo Gallery, Hearst Tower, 214 N. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202, MAP

Join us at Sozo Gallery to support ARM and experience "The Unbound Self," featuring the brilliant and talented Winnie Sidharta Am Ron. A portion of purchased work will be donated to ARM.

A presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Speakers include Lauren Kestner of ARM and David Boyle with The Psych.

ARM will host a series of workshops at the Moving Poets Cabin that provide a first-hand look at how we engage with our community members. Space is limited to the first 20 individuals, so be sure to secure your complimentary ticket today.

Workshop Schedule

Saturday, May 20th, 11:00am-5:00pm
Moving Poets Cabin, 2107 Mandarin Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28205, MAP

Registration begins at 10:30am. Guests will be offered light snacks and refreshments at check-in.

11am-12pm Introduction to ARM through our "Collaborative Canvas Workshop" with founding members Lauren Kestner, JR Rockey, and Hillary Belk.

15 Minute Break

12:15pm-12:45pm Break for Lunch and refreshments, vegetarian option included

12:45-1:15pm Learn about ARM: Our mission, who we are, what we do, and what we strive to achieve.

1:15-2:45pm: "Breakthrough" workshop with our collaborative partner with LinSun of The School of Jai, a heart centered educational initiative of healers and artists.

15 Minute Break

3-4:30pm "Reflection Through the Written Word," a literary workshop facilitated by Lauren Kestner & Hillary Belk.

4:45-5pm: Open Discussion

11am-11:30pm Donald McDonald, Director of Advocacy and Education Recovery Communities of North Carolina (RCNC) to speak and share information about RCNC and the recovery initiative in NC.

15 Minute Break

11:45pm-12:30pm Therapeutic Yoga with Kris Brooks of Kris Brooks Yoga, one of Charlotte’s favorite yoga instructors!

12:30-1pm Break for lunch, snacks, and refreshments

1pm-2pm JR Rockey's "Dead Poets Society," an interactive writing workshop.

15 Minute Break

2:15-3pm Movement Meditation Workshop with Till Schmidt-Rimpler. Founding member of our sponsor Moving Poets.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Friday, May19 "The Unbound Self" at Sozo Gallery: Sozo is located in the center of Uptown Charlotte. Street parking is often available along N. Tryon between 5th & 6th Streets. If preferred, you can park in the Hearst Tower parking garage with entrances on both 5th & 6th Streets, between College and Tryon.
Saturday and Sunday, May 20 & 21 at the Moving Poets Cabin: The Moving Poets Cabin is located in a cabin at the end of Mandarin Blvd. Street parking is availble along both Mandarin Blvd and adjacent street, Lantana Ave.


Is this event really free?

Yes! ARM wishes to share how we serve our mission and how art can aid recovery with members of the Charlotte community. There will be an opportunity to make a donation for those who wish to financially support ARM as we offer holistic, innovative workshops centered on creative expression to those in recovery.


What should I wear to the workshops?

You should wear comfortable, casual clothing to the workshops.
