Event description

Description

The Society for Contemporary Craft is the venue for an exciting and engaging discussion about fiber art on Thursday, November 30th, 6 - 8 PM. Inspired by the recent publication of the three-volume series Artistry in Fiber, artists and educators will talk about the evolution of fiber traditions, education, and techniques, and look at new trends in this dynamic field.

Moderated by Carolyn Carson, PhD, University of Pittsburgh, Urban Studies, and President of Pittsburgh Fiber Arts Guild, the panel will include Karen Page, Textiles instructor at Pittsburgh's CAPA High School; James Mall, a community artist, currently creating quilted portraits; Trey Gehrin, a weaver who integrates digital and handmade textile traditions; and members of the Pittsburgh Fiber Arts Guild, among others.

Artistry in Fiber: [1] Wall Art; [2] Sculpture; and [3] Wearable Art will all be available for purchase. Many of the artists and one of the editors will be in attendance to sign the books. Reception to follow the discussion.

The event is free and open to the public.
